3 Features to Look for When Buying a New Trailer for Your Truck

Blog

Buying a new trailer for your truck will give you an opportunity to haul a lot more material at once than you can now. Here are a few features to look for when choosing a new trailer:

Removable Sidewalls

One feature you should look for when buying a trailer for your truck is removable sidewalls. You may or may not want walls on your trailer most of the time. But who knows what will happen in the future? If your trailer comes with sidewalls that can't be removed, it could be a problem when trying to haul certain things. If your trailer doesn't come with sidewalls at all, you could end up having to buy a new trailer that does have walls to fulfill your hauling needs.

Buying a trailer that features removable sidewalls now will give you the flexibility you need no matter what circumstances you find yourself in later down the line. At the very least, the trailer you buy should be compatible with aftermarket sidewalls if you decide to install some at some point in the future.

Cover Compatibility

It is also a good idea to make sure that the new trailer you invest in is compatible with trailer covers. Being able to use a cover with your trailer will expand your hauling options throughout the year, especially when the weather is bad and it's really windy or rainy outside. A cover can help keep debris from falling out of your trailer on the way to the dump too.

Your county may even have laws on the books that require trailers full of trash to be covered in some way. Without the opportunity to install a proper trailer cover on your own trailer, you'll be forced to use a tarp or large piece of plastic as a cover which can be tough to secure to trailers overall.

A Manufacturer's Warranty

Without a manufacturer's warranty in place, you will be left to pick up the pieces on your own if something goes wrong with the trailer anytime soon after you buy it. Any manufacturer that stands by their products will offer warranty protection of some kind that will give you peace of mind during the first couple years of trailer ownership.

Think twice before buying a trailer that doesn't come with a manufacturer's warranty. The trailer may be lower in quality that do come with a warranty, and you might end up spending a lot more money on repairs than you might expect.
